the studio

music gives a soul to the universe, wings to the mind, flight to the imagination, and life to everything.
— Plato

It is my goal as a teacher to help each student find his or her own unique voice by creating a solid technical foundation, an understanding and love for a broad range of vocal repertoire, and a passion for sharing this art form with the world.

a student is almost always motivated to practice if he leaves his lessons feeling capable.
— Frances Clark

I believe that, when given the right set of tools, every student can learn and improve. To that end, all of my students learn the purpose of technical work as it relates to their instrument and how to effectively practice it on their own. Students also actively participate in repertoire selection.

I strive to create and maintain an environment where every student feels safe and celebrated, both as an individual and as an artist. Students are encouraged to test their limits and take risks, be they technical or dramatic.

We do not believe in ourselves until someone reveals that what is deep inside us is valuable, worth listening to, worthy of our trust, sacred to our touch. Once we believe in ourselves we can risk curiosity, wonder, spontaneous delight, or any experience that reveals the human spirit.
— E.E. Cummings
